Old Farm Day

Today was Old Farm Day at Pleasant Grove in Fluvanna County. It's a day where old ways of life are relived through demonstrations and crafts. Brent's group "Just Us" sang at the event for the second year in a row. This year the weather cooperated much better than it did last. Even though it was cloudy, the rain and cold held off and it was an overall pleasant day. Here are a few pictures including a cool dog who is trained to protect livestock and farm animals. Check out how the pup was in the same pen as the crazy-curly chickens! There's even a site to see in the pic of a not-so-everyday couple: a scottish man in a kilt and a civil war soldier :) Last, but not least, I couldn't help including the pic of the baby with all the hair....I think it almost looks like a wig! Watch him be bald by 30 :)

Tomorrow Kathryn and I are going back to paint more pottery with a couple others coming along. I can't wait to see how last week's pieces turned out. We're so ahead of the game for Christmas!! Now, if I only knew what to get Brent!

Now it's time to try working on my paper for British Lit. Wish me luck!

Just a little update

Sorry it's been so long! I've got a new camera and it has taken me while to figure out how to upload my pictures :) here's one of Fork Union Baptist Church. Brent is now the new Music Director (as a second job) as well as still having his regular job at FUMA. Hope this picture works! Promise I'll write and post more soon!!!

Back to life at Fork Union

We're back to our daily life here in Fork Union. We had a 23-hour power outage Thurs-Fri which was not too fun seeing that it has been SO hot! We got power back just in time to go to a reception at church for Brent. He is being considered for the music director at Fork Union Baptist Church. It would be a second job for him. Today was his "trial run" where he lead the music of the service, the choir, and sang a solo. Glad it's him, not me! :) The church business meeting is tonight, so we should hear the verdict soon.

A couple pictures are of our neighbor's boy, Jake, on Thursday. He had a bunch of cherios in his stroller seat that he decided to share with Dusty, then enjoy himself!

Last night we went to our friends', David and Tracy's house for a cookout. I'm including a couple of pics. Kat brought their new little girl Addison. She's only 2 weeks old! So sweet. I am also putting up a pic I forgot to of Brent in Abingdon...I guess once you spend enough time with kids, you revert back to being one yourself!

I should start subbing again next week, then the following week I will start my new classes at Piedmont. I'll be taking Children's Lit and British Lit. Wish me luck! Brent's in his shed organizing right now. It's looking really good. I'll put up pics once he's finished (if that will ever really happen!) I'm seeing the boys who are back at FUMA lining up for dinner....they're working those boys hard at football practice. That's another "glad it's them, not me!".

Welcome to our neice, Madison!

We were able to make a visit to Rolesville, NC to welcome our new neice, Madison Faith Hicks. She was born August 10th at 7:11pm. She was 8 lbs and 21 inches. Enjoy the pictures....I'm sure we'll have more as time goes on!

My 10-Year Reunion

Just a few pictures from my Abingdon High class of 1997 reunion that was August 11th. It was a lot of fun to catch up with some classmates, most of whom I haven't seen since we graduated!

We're Back !

We're finally back for good from camp. I took the last week to come home and finish up my summer class (I got an A!), then I headed back to camp to help wrap things up. It was a good summer for us. Not so much for Dusty. He did a number on our house, and apparently the running joke around Fork Union was that he had doggie depression. Poor pup! We're all glad we're home and can get things back to normal!

Tomorrow, though, we go to Abingdon for my 10 year high school reunion. I hope to get some good pictures. I want to visit the Highlands Festival at least one day. Then, depending on how things go, Candace is due to have the baby this Thursday. I hope we can visit them after the reunion if the baby has come.

I'm putting up a couple of pictures of camp and the dance we had with Camp Mont Shennandoah. Plus, just to try it out, I'm putting up a video of Brent and Alan singing the Lord's Prayer at camp. We play it every night, but the night of the dance we had moved the sound equipment. The boys were asked to sing it for camp. Brent sang lead and Alan was the harmony. I hope it works! :)

Also, we've done a bit of redecorating. We took down the guest bed since we have a sofa bed for visitors, and we made the guest room a craft/office room. I'm so excited! I hope I can keep it neat!

Hope everyone had a great summer! Sorry it's been so long since a post. Love to hear from you all.

The boys created their own camp band!

The Junior Counselors camp out at the food table!

Back to camp!

We're back at Camp Virginia for another summer. It's been pretty hot and humid these past few days. I'm ready for it to cool off a bit, but that's wishful thinking. The campers arrived this past Friday, so we're only at the start of their three-week stay. Of course, there are already some homesick little guys, but that should pass. Here's a picture of the new golf cart that was given to camp as a gift.....crazy, huh!

I went down to Rolesville to attend my brother and sister-in-law's baby shower for my sson-to-be niece, Madison. They recieved so many wonderful gifts...especially little girl clothes (who can resist buying those!). She is due August 9th. Here are a few pics....enjoy!

The cute diaper "cake".

Me, my mom, Candace, and Bryan.

Bryan's favorite gift!

Our Vacation's End

Yes, that's the sight we saw for the last few days of our beach vacation. It got up to 72 today (heat wave!), but we're going to be headed into some hot days next week. It's forcasted to be in the mid 90s!

Here's a picture of the family. Dennis and Diane came to join us, as did Mr. Miller on Wednesday night (around 2am!). Everyone is chatting about "old times" right now. We head out in the morning for home, then it's off to Camp Virginia on Sunday (Brent's birthday).

Vacation at the OBX

I have a couple of pictures of our vacation so far this week. I think we are picking up our wireless signal from a neighbors house, so I thought I'd try to upload some pics while it's available. It's a bit windy today and getting cooler, so we're hanging out inside. It's forcasted to rain the rest of the week. I guess we'll just have to resort to shopping, then :)

With Alan, Betty, and Harry in front of our house, "Elwood". Once again, my eyes are closed....if I can't see the camera, then it can't see me, right?! :)
